Backing and riding away 3 NH Bred Youngsters
With all racing and point to pointing cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic we were very pleased to be asked to start off three beautifully bred young potential National Hunt racehorses.
Due to the constrictions of Lockdown, their owner was unable to come to the yard and see the horses progress, so I put together a series of videos to chart their development.
We started by introducing them to a roller and lungeing..
Followed by getting them used to a saddle and introducing long reining… Whilst leaning over and sitting on them in the stable…
By week three we are going further afield with the long reining as well as getting them used to walking over poles and on varying terrain…
After a month they are able to be ridden away and with the benefit of a lead from 12 time winner L’Eldorado (now 15) we get them cantering for a circuit of the all weather track (500m) on both reins. It is now time for them to go back out to grass to grow and develop. We will get them back in for the next stage of their education in about six months time.
